On Saturday we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with the Bells. Barbecuing is one of the common ways to celebrate this festival. Casey, Molly, and Casey's mom, Becky, had prepared a feast of chicken, brots, potato salad, and fresh veggies which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is pretty amazing that you can whip up good meats on a narrow little balcony over a small portable grill. The only inconvenience is the smoke that rushes in whenever the balcony door is opened, but the taste is worth the extra shower at night. For dessert we had our choice of green bean moon cakes, pamelo fruit, and ice cream moon cakes. There were also several firework displays that the kids enjoyed watching from the Bell's laundry room balcony.
It was nearly 9:00 p.m. when we walked home. We passed four or five different friends/family groups gathered around a tiny grill on the side of the street. Some were barbecuing outside their family business, others were on the street outside of their apartment building (probably because their apartment didn't have an outdoor balcony). I wished I had our camera with me.
